‘Move It’ this October: Nationwide call-to-action from Mental Health Ireland to raise funds for vital work this Mental Health Month

Mental Health Ireland is asking the nation to ‘Move It’ during Mental Health Month this October to raise money for vital support across the country. The longest established national mental health charity in the country is asking workplaces, schools, sports clubs and communities to give up to 60 minutes of movement any day in October to help fund free information, resources and education for communities across Ireland.

How It Works
1. Choose how you’ll take part – Choose to Move It in your Workplaces, Community, Club or Gym, or an Individual challenge.
2. Create your iDonate page – Set up your fundraising page in less than 3 minutes here https://www.idonate.ie/event/MoveItforMentalHealthMonth
3. Move up to 60 minutes – Complete your movement goal any day in October. Dance, stretch, run, swim, walk. Whatever way you want to Move It, just Move It for Mental Health!

The Move It fundraiser is part of Mental Health Month which takes place throughout October with October 10th marking World Mental Health Day. World mental Health Day is an opportunity for us all to talk about mental health and consider how, together, we can help everyone have better mental health. Throughout the whole month, Mental Health Ireland is making mental health and wellbeing a national priority with a programme of events, activities and workshops. Irish Olympian and the current Irish marathon record holder, Catherina McKiernan, is regarded as one of the world’s best cross-country runners.
Giving her support to the Move It for Mental Health Month fundraising campaign, Catherina said, “Living a healthy and active lifestyle is one of the most powerful choices you can make to improve your overall wellbeing. Regular physical activity not only strengthens your body, but it also boosts your mood, reduces stress, and enhances your quality of life. This is why I’m supporting Mental Health Ireland’s Move It fundraiser. The key is to find activities you enjoy, and know when you take care of your healthy, you’re investing in a better, more vibrant future.”
Jo Donohoe, Programmes Manager with Mental Health Ireland said, “As a charity we depend on the generosity of people. This generosity helps us to widen our impact by providing more training and information to communities and run more programmes for people with mental health challenges. The Move It campaign will help us to raise vital money, encourage people to get active and connect with others therefore supporting their mental health. It’s a win win!”
